Ten reasons why we need the Bible

The Bible is a necessary part of life because it points us to Jesus who is the source and foundation of joy and happiness (John 15:11; 17:13). So the Word is necessary because it is the written expression of the eternal and incarnate Word, Jesus.

Here are ten reasons why the Word is so valuable and why we must mediate on it day and night as the Psalmist says:

1. The Word of God awakens and strengthens faith (Romans 10:17; John 16:13-14)
2. Through hearing the Word, God supplies the Holy Spirit (Gal 3:5; 1Thess 1:6)
3. The Word of God creates and sustains life (John 10:10, 1Peter 1:23-25; John 6:63)
4. The Word of God gives hope (Rom 15:4
5. The Word of God leads us to freedom (John 8:32; John 17:17)
6. The Word of God is the key to answered prayer (John 15:7; 1John 5:14)
7. The Word of God is the source of wisdom (Col 2:3, 3:16)
8. The Word of God gives crucial warnings (Ps 19:10-11)
9. The Word of God enables us to defeat the devil (1John 2:14; 2Tim 2:25-26)
10. The Word of God is the source of great and lasting joy (Ps 119:72, 103, 162)

You can find these with a fuller explaination in John Pipers book "When I dont desire God"
